Caitlin Bassett was born 23 May 1988, and began playing netball at the age of 11 at Southern Districts Netball Association. She first represented WA at State School Girls when she was 14, and was selected to play in the Australian Under 16’s team a year later.

Caitlin was playing for the State League team the South East Demons when she was asked to join the Perth Orioles in 2005. In her last year of high school at the time Caitlin played her debut game against Australian Captain Liz Ellis at just 16 years old.

When the ANZ Championship started in 2007 Bassett was named in the Perth team which became the West Coast Fever.

In 2008, she was given an opportunity to play for the Australian Diamonds, and made her debut against England at the age of 20.

As she was still eligible, Caitlin went to the Cook Islands and played in the Australian World Youth Cup team which won gold against New Zealand.

In 2011 Bassett was named in the World Championship team and went to Singapore to play in July. Caitlin came on at half time

and was part of the teams 58-57 victory over the Silver Ferns. Caitlin’s injection into the game is considered pivotal in this victory, shooting at 90% and scoring the last goal in Extra Time to seal the Championship for her nation.

Outside netball Caitlin is studying Broadcast and Journalism and hopes to one day be involved in sports broadcasting. She is also known for her love of animals, cupcakes and polaroid photography.
